Washable Area Rugs

Machine washable area rugs and hand washable floor rugs are the right choice for higher traffic areas and for potentially wet and muddy zones

Places to use Machine Washable Rugs

Machine washable rugs are perfect to use in places where the rug might get stained. Rugs placed in hallways by the front door, bathrooms or kitchen area rugs are in a potential hazard to get dirty and stained. People stepping in these areas might have mud on their shoes, boots or the bottom side of their feet. Washable rugs eliminate the need to frequently take heavy area rugs to the dry cleaner shop, a costly and time consuming task. For the same reasons, choose rugs made of washable materials for indoor outdoor area rugs for patios and other outdoor areas

Washing and Drying

Whether it is dirt brought from the street onto the hallway rug, liquids that were dripping on the kitchen area rugs or dust mixed with water deposited in the bathroom on your bathroom rug, you can handle the situation by cycling your rug through your washing machine. Obviously, the rug size must fit the capacity of the washing machine and you must comply with the manufacturer of the area rug instructions. Depending on the manufacturer instructions, you can either dry the washable area rugs in the drier or hang them for drying. Avoid drying the washed rug in the sun, shaded areas with a light wind are preferred

Materials used for Washable Rugs

Wool area rugs are the almost unavoidable choice for the living rooms but are not washable in the washing machine. Avoid wool in areas where the rug might get dirty easily and excessively. Use rugs made of Jute, Sisal, Cotton, Olefin, Polypropylene, and Microfiber instead for the areas that are liable to get wet and grubby. Rugs made from these materials can be woven or braided and come in a variety of sizes, styles shapes and colors to fit any area. Budget wise, you can expect prices ranging from few tens $, to over $500. Unless you want the most exquisite area rug for a specific location, such as your patio or your special outdoor getting together area, go on the mid-range price; it will give you an excuse to replace the rug without having remorse and bring a new look and feel to the area.

Non-Washable Rugs

Many rugs are not washable and they require the use of compatible cleaning methods. Rug cleaning machines can be rented, or the rugs can be taken for professional rug cleaning. If the rugs are properly vacuumed and are provided with good care, professional cleaning can be done very rarely, once or twice a year.
