Machine Washable Rugs

Buying machine washable rugs can save time and money that would have been otherwise spent on rug cleaning. There are however limitations you need to know about machine washable area rugs

Washable Area Rugs

Washable area rugs serve you best in areas like the bathroom, the kitchen and outdoor areas. Better fibers and improved manufacturing methods made it possible for the manufacturers to offer a wide variety of beautiful washable area rugs for living rooms and for bedrooms. Washable area rugs can be hand washed, but some of them can be washed using your domestic washing machine. Look for the following before you throw the rug into the washing machine:

  • Look into the manufacturer instructions on the back side of the rug and verify that the rug can be washed in the domestic washing machine; adhere to the manufacturer instructions on the desired washing cycle temperature.

  • Make sure the rug is not too big for the capacity of your washing machine, you do not want to damage the washing machine drum balance. Most kitchen throw rugs and most rugs in your bathroom rug set will fit into a typical domestic washing machine.

  • There are cases that the manufacturer instructions allow to machine wash the rug but they forbid drying the rug in the dryer. These are machine washable rugs yet not machine dry-able

For rugs that are not machine washable rugs but can be hand washed ,give it a wash in the the bath tub, or use a sprinkle to wash it outdoor. It will be less costly and more convenient to hand wash rather than resorting to carpet cleaning services or to use a rug cleaning machine

How often to wash?

It is recommended to wash the bathroom rugs every week. The combination of humidity and soil can make the rug to look ugly and mucky. Washing will keep the rug in a good shape, shiny and beautiful

Kitchen area rugs are usually at places where food spillage, crumbs and liquids droplets are common. Add to that soil and mud from shoes and boots and the somewhat sticky unventilated air. With this in mind, kitchen rugs require frequent cleaning as well

Rugs placed outdoors will need frequent washing, the easiest would be to use a water hose to wash them.
