The Machine Made Area Rug

Although the machine made area rug is lower in cost than the hand-made rug, you can create an amazing effect by using decorative machine made rugs.

How Do Machines Make Machine Made Rugs?

The machine used to create machine made rugs is a power loom, a modern descendant of historic looms. The warp yarns are cotton or jute, the weft fibers are nylon, polypropylene, olefin or wool. Wool area rugs are soft, subtle gleam colors, built to stay in service for many years and have a unique wool touch. Some people are allergic though to wool due to shedding of micro fibers, fading of colors of wool rugs require special attention. Wool is used to create hand-made rugs and machine made rugs. Synthetic fibers are used only for the creation of machine-made rugs. Synthetic area rugs colors are shining and fade resistant, they have a soft touch, adequate life span and are easy to care for. Synthetic fiber rugs are do not ansorb humidity, liquids and water and therefore machine-made synthetic area rugs are inherently stain proof and they can repel most chemicals.

Modern looms are controlled by computers, therefore the variety of colors, patterns and motifs is infinite, and the computer just carries over the rug designer designs onto the area rug. These looms are very efficient, turning out very cost effective and very high quality machine-made area rugs at affordable prices.

Colors and Patterns

Modern rug-making looms are controlled by computers that can convert any design to an area rug in a variety of sizes, themes and colors. A modern loom can handle simultaneously dozens of yarns in different hues, therefore even the most demanding motif loaded with colors can be created. As a result, any area rug style can be realized in machine-made floor rugs

Cost of Machine-made Rugs

Machine made rugs are usually sold at a fraction of the cost of hand-made rugs, and rugs made of synthetic fibers are normally less expensive than those made of natural fibers. The price and performance of rugs is also governed by rug density. Denser rugs are usually more expensive. The density of machine made rugs is measured in points per square foot. Depending on the thickness of the yarn being used, there can be 200,000 points per square foot (140 points per square inch), or higher. Because wool material is thicker than the synthetic raw fibers, wool density is rarely exceeding 200,000 points per square foot, while synthetic area rugs can be made with the higher density.
