Here is a list of area rugs most common sizes and to where they will fit (sizes are in feet). The following sizes can be found at our store Masada Rugs. - 2 feet by 4 feet
- This small size is also known as scatter area rugs and it is mostly used in the kitchen, bathroom and at the entrance
- 3 feet by 5 feet
- A slightly bigger size, used mostly in kitchens and in entrance halls
- 4 feet by 6 feet
- To be used under coffee tables and rarely in entrance halls
- 5 feet by 8 feet and 6 feet by 9 feet
- A very popular size for a living room, prefer a wool area rug
- 8 feet by 10 feet and 8 feet by 11 feet
- You might call it the dining room area rug. For most dining room tables this size covers the area under the table and the pulled back chairs. Make sure the rug is thick and that it can endure the table and chairs crash forces
- 9 feet by 12 feet and larger (10 feet by 14 feet)
- Will fit a large living room
Recommended Guidelines for each Room
- Living Room
- You can choose one big area rug that will cover the living room floor, the rug is slightly smaller than the room and the floor is revealed around the rug. Another alternative is to use multiple rugs chosen from an area rug set to accent various areas in the living room
- Dining Room
- Measure the width and length of the dining room table. Add 30 inches on each side to allow for the chairs when pulled back.
- Bathrooms
- Use bathroom area rugs
- Bedroom
- In bedrooms, use small equal size rugs on both sides of the bed. Two identical 2 feet by 6 feet rug runners are usually placed on both sides of the bed. For a bigger bedroom, you may consider two 3 feet by 5 feet rugs.
- Entrance Hall
- Rug runners, 2 feet or 3 feet in width and length to cover the entire length of the hallway are used
Choosing the right area rug sizes for your room is an important consideration in decorating with area rugs
