Where is the right place for the Rug Runner?

The runner rags can be placed at the entrance, at hallways and on stairways. Rug and stair runners add beauty and harmony and can transform an ordinary hallway or stairway into a focal point. Runner rugs and stair runners add to the overall home appearance in excess above their relatively low cost.

What rug runners are available?

The two options are either to buy an area rug runner or to buy a custom cut area rug runner; custom made runners are priced per feet length plus handling fee. The width, either way is between 2 feet 3 inches to 3 feet (68 cm to 90 cm) to fit the width of the corridor or entrance. Length of 10 feet (3 meters) is typical, 8 feet (2.40) is a minimal length. For stairways, it might be necessary to buy a longer piece off a roller cut to whatever the length of stairway is. Expect a waiting time of 1-3 weeks for a custom made runner. The rug can be sold unfinished or hand-capped. Hand-capped finish entails extra cost. In most cases off the shelf rug runners can be found to fit the size of the hallway. Area rug runners must have a rug pad under them for safety reasons.

Materials and Quality of Rug Runners

The one area where it is worth to pay more per square feet is for the entrance, hallways and stairs. Even if you choose to go on top of the line, the impact you get per buck spent really worth paying extra.

Practical Consideration for Choosing Rug Runners

Measure carefully the length and width of the space that the runner rug is going to cover before you go to actually shop a runner. Off the shelf runners are refundable, cut to length runners are however not refundable.

A runner in front of the kitchen counter can protect the floor and might help to prevent a falling plate from breakage. Obviously, for the kitchen rug you can choose a lower price rug, easier to clean and wash.
