Invisible and sandwiched between the area rug and the floor, the area rug pad is essential to safety, comfort and protection of the rug itself as well as the floor beneath it

At our Simi Valley rug store we carry non-slip area rugs pads for all hard surfaces: hardwood, tile, laminate, stone, marble etc.

The main sizes for the pads are 5'x8' ($20) & 8'x11' ($35). However, the rug pads come in other sizes and can also be cut easily with scissors to create a custom fit for any rug size or shape.

Increased Home Safety

The area rugs pad keeps the area rug flat and prevents rug wrinkles. Small humps on a rug can trip the leg with unpleasant consequences, especially to kids. Non smooth pads inserted between the floor and the rug prevents the rug from skidding over the floor, especially important on wood or linoleum floors.

Added Comfort

A thick pad adds cushion for comfort walking and it dumps the shriek sound of people walking on it.

Added Moisture Protection

The pad allows air circulation around the rug, inhaling fresh air and exhaling moisture air. Therefore mold population build up is denied. Mildew can cause unpleasant odor, stains and reduce the useful life of the rug. Mold buildup is a severe health hazard.

Reduce Wear And Tear

It might surprise you but a rug wears from its bottom side - the one that is in contact with the floor. Walking on the top side causes friction between the bottom side and the floor. The pad reduces this premature aging effect considerably. It is more convenient to vacuum clean a padded area carpet.

Increased Floor Protection

The pad protects the floor against color convey, damage and staining. The saving in floor care expenses outweighs the price of rug pads.

Types of Area Rugs Pads

Pads are selected to fit the floor material; smooth floors need a non-slippage material pad. Some pads are categorized as all-surface. Other pads are optimized to wood floors. A quarter inch pad thickness fits most floor types. The area rug pad size should match the rug size; if the rug size is not standard, you can buy an oversized pad and trim it easily with scissors.

How to choose a rug pad

Here is a checklist to follow on how to choose the right area rug pad

• Choose a non-skid pad. Especially important on wood, stone and ceramis floors


• Choose the thicker pad. Thicker pads add a cushion and comfort under your feet, and help to absorb noises and to improve the acoustics of the room .


• For lower traffic outdoor locations use a thin waffle pad.


• Choose an all-surface padding for floor rugs that are layed over wall to wall carpets. They provide a good protection for heavy traffic. The wall-to-wall carpet provide the cushion so the requirement from the pad is less.
